Winter Holloway’s

I first stepped foot on Shute’s Lane exactly five years ago to the date, in December 2019 unaware of what 2020 would bring, so it was wonderful to walk these ancient tracks once more. This circular walk which begins at Sydmonsbury Estate near Bridport, Dorset really feels like a step back in time. I love the feeling that the high banks bring - a chapter in history as these ancient tracks date back at least 300 years.
I have revisited these lanes in both the springtime and winter time, and although it’s absolutely wonderful to walk amongst the bluebells, I do feel a certain amount of fondness for the barrenness that winter brings, mostly because not many venture out in these dark days - so I almost always have these lanes to myself!
